Rebel without a clue.

After the very matter of fact diagnosis of Epilepsy came the list of things that I shouldn’t do! Climbing ladders is easy having baths alone less so but not going near open water on my own is the toughest. The thing that I find the most relaxing is fishing, winter Pike fishing in particular and anyone who knows Pike knows they like big weir pools on fast flowing rivers. Today I rebelled against my neurologist and went on my own, I have had people offer to go with me but sitting quietly watching a float is the bit that I like best.  I took some precautions like sitting a lot further from the edge and when netting my catch I extended the net handle fully and knelt down to scoop the Pike just in case I got “wobbly” I always know that I am not going to have to get near the water very often as I don’t catch many fish but I like it.

When it came to my medication time I soon became unbalanced so packed up my stuff and retreated to my scooter where I sat drinking coffee until I was steady enough to go home, I still have some common sense.

I managed one and a half fish (the half is the one that broke my line at the net and ran off) 😀   The one I landed weighed a little over 15 pounds, which I now consider to be a tiddler after my best Pike of 25 pounds caught 2 months ago.

So was it worth the risk? I think it was, but I must confess that I wasn’t as relaxed as before the diagnosis even though the risk was the same! Maybe I need to ask Santa for a life jacket next Christmas? Does it help me having a name for my condition? I don’t know, time will tell.

Today’s location, The river Nene behind Wellingborough prison.

The Wiccaweys dog of the day is Sky.

Sky has come to us from her family where she was very much loved. The other dog in the family picked on her, so her family very bravely made the decision to let Sky find another home.

Sky is absolutely beautiful. She has lived with children and had always had a family. She has ignored our cats so far. Sky would love another family to love her as much as her old family did. Her old mum has even put together a photo album of Sky growing up so her new family can share in that.

About Mick C Gorman

Slightly damaged old bloke who is plodding on with more than a little help from a great wife. I have been married for 39 years and have 2 grown up children. I did the usual thing and replaced children with dogs when the nest became empty, best thing I ever did (apart from getting married of course). Life has taken a few interesting turns so far but this Epilepsy thing beats the lot! I love lots of things but in the past have never really stuck with them long enough to be good at them, I am trying harder to be better at a few things rather than okay at loads of things. There is still plenty of time. :-D

It’s hard when having a ‘disability’ interferes with something you love doing, like you with your fishing. I love working in the garden, but I have a bad back and I can only do short bursts at a time, and it frustrates me but I know I will suffer if I ignore it,
The thing is, to recognize our limitations and work with them so we can still enjoy doing what we love.
The 25lb pike was a great catch!
Sky looks lovely and it’s a shame her owner had to give her up; I hope she finds a new forever home soon.

Sky is lovely and well loved by the volunteers, I’m sure her day will come. 🙂
